Classroom Management

Promoting Individual Growth

and Collaborative Teamwork

Three-Tiered Support for a Thriving Classroom

In my classroom, I implement a three-tiered support system to ensure that every child’s social, emotional, and behavioral needs are met with care, intention, and consistency. This approach balances individual growth with the cultivation of a collaborative classroom community, where each learner feels seen, supported, and empowered.

Tier 1: Whole Class Foundations

Tier 2: Small Group Support

At the core, I establish clear, consistent routines and community agreements co-created with students. We model and practice empathy, active listening, and responsibility daily. Through class meetings, shared reflections, and social-emotional learning, all students engage in building a positive and inclusive environment where mutual respect is the norm.

For students who need more targeted guidance, I provide small-group support focused on specific social skills, emotional regulation, or peer interaction strategies. These groups offer a safe space to strengthen self-awareness and interpersonal skills, while reinforcing a sense of belonging and teamwork within the class.

Tier 3: Individualized Support

Some learners require personalized strategies to help them thrive. I collaborate with families, specialists, and the child to create individualized plans that honor their unique needs and goals. Whether through one-on-one check-ins, sensory tools, or tailored behavior strategies, the focus remains on fostering growth, independence, and confidence.

Tiered Behavioral Supports & Incentive Systems

Empowering Behavior Through Accountability & Celebration

To address specific behavior challenges within my classroom, I designed and implemented a behavioral incentive system tailored to meet both individual and whole-class needs. Recognizing that some students required more structured support while others thrived through social motivation, I created a tiered approach that encouraged personal accountability and team-based cooperation.

The system included daily visual trackers for individual students who needed targeted interventions, alongside a class-wide goal chart that emphasized shared responsibility. Students worked collectively to earn points through respectful behavior, active participation, and demonstrating teamwork during learning and transitions. Individual efforts were celebrated, while peer encouragement and collaboration were consistently reinforced.

The incentive for reaching our classroom goals was a "Starbucks Day"—a reward party of their choice built around a classroom café theme. Students enjoyed themed drinks, created menus, role-played as baristas, and engaged in a full day of thoughtfully designed, center-based activities that supported literacy, math, and creative expression—all aligned with the theme of their reward. This celebration reflected their hard work and underscored the importance of cooperation, perseverance, and mutual respect.

This system not only addressed behavioral concerns but also strengthened classroom culture, empowering every child to contribute positively and feel valued as part of a team.
